James J. Begley a Boston-based web site developer and Dale T. Read , Publisher of BEDROOM Magazine recently announced that by late January to early February they would launch a search / locator site to assist consumers searching for mattresses and bedding to find local "bricks and mortar" retail stores. The site will include a "free" simple listing of over 18,000 mattress/bedding retail stores located throughout the United States. "We are not direct marketing; we are not selling anything to consumers," Read emphasized. "WWW.MATTRESSFINDER.NET does NOT sell mattresses or bedding products. Our sole mission is to build a site that educates consumers and will drive consumer dollars to furniture stores, department stores, and mattress and bedding stores," said Read.

 

"We believe that a certain percentage of the population, especially the younger/faster-paced professionals will, in fact, buy a bed or a piece of furniture on-line, sight unseen and not test it. However, we also believe that the overwhelming majority of mattress shoppers want to research a mattress and try it out before they buy it . . . especially with the higher priced specialty sleep and ultra-premium or luxury mattresses. We want to make it easy for them to locate the products and the stores near to their homes," Read stated.

 

Begley points out that the WWW.MATTRESSFINDER.NET slogan is, ‘Where to Try It & Where to Buy It’. "Mattress shopping can be a real puzzle for consumers sometimes. They don’t know where to start. They are not sure what to buy or where to buy it. We want to help consumers find the right mattress stores in their neighborhood," said Begley. We are working with retailers and manufacturers to create a First-Class consumer information, education and locator site for the mattress retail business," said Begley. We are offering a full list of fairly priced services to mattress/bedding retailers including web links, stores logos, store locator maps, a showroom floor photo gallery, a selected-product photo gallery, sales personnel, banner ads. "We will be using the preponderance of the revenues from retail stores to build a strong web search capability to reach as many consumers as possible, and to constantly update and build the site," says Begley. "We will offer a FREE simple alphabetical text listing to our 18,000-plus retailers, and we plan to reach out and work with as many of those mattress/bedding retailers as possible to promote their products and their stores," said Begley.

 

"Our goal is to help consumers find the right mattress/bedding product choices and to help them find the stores that are near them to try the beds and to buy them. We want to drive more traffic to the home furnishings and bedding stores from people who research products on-line," said Read. "Ultimately we want to help the consumer, the retailer and yes we want to help the mattress/bedding manufacturer too. As we build the retailer services and the search capability, we will work closer and closer with manufacturers to post their products, link to their sites and provide more and more mattress/bedding product information to consumers," said Read.
