SPECIAL REPORT by Dale T. Read, Editor-in-Chief

In this new era of health-conscious consumers, litigation, government regulations and fines, as well as growing environmental awareness, it is becoming increasingly important for retailers to know what is going on inside a bed. The “Intel® Inside” marketing campaign was created by the micro-chip manufacturer because they knew that consumers wanted a quality product inside their computers. They wanted a brand, a company name they could identify with, count on, and even ask for. More and more consumers, and retailers, a like, need and want to know what is going on with any product they bring into their home, including their bed. What materials are being used for fillers, separators, fibers, quilting, foams and ticking covers? Not only do retailers need to provide inquiring consumers more information, but they need to protect themselves by having as much knowledge as possible about what goes into the various conventional and specialty sleep products they are selling. This special supplier section entitled “In the Bed” is designed to educate the retailer not only about the materials and components but also about the companies supplying those materials and components to mattress/bedding manufacturers. We hope this section is informative and useful for all who read it.

Latex International Launches Temperature Regulating
Celsion
TM Latex

Latex International will launch a new, patent-pending Talalay latex formulation at the ISPA Expo in Baltimore. Celsion™ features a unique formulation that helps regulate body temperature to create a more comfortable sleeping environment. This product, only available from Latex International, is the only latex or foam available in the U.S. that embeds phase change material directly into the product’s formulation.

Celsion helps maintain a consistent body temperature throughout the night while experiencing the comfort, pressure relief and health benefits of natural Talalay latex. Celsion, which comes in a soft, soothing pink tone, can be used on top of innerspring, viscoelastic, polyurethane foam and latex support cores. It works in concert with other advanced phase change ticking as well as wicking materials used in a mattress’ quilt package. The product, which comes in various thicknesses and firmness levels, feels plush and silky like classic Talalay latex but has a step-up story with its phase change capabilities.

“The toppers act like a combination air conditioner and furnace helping regulate your sleep surface always keeping you at optimal body sleep temperature,” stated Kevin Stein, Vice President of Marketing at Latex International. “It acts like a sponge to absorb heat energy released from the body and re-uses your own body temperature to help cool down a warm body and warm up a cool body, “ he added.

A consumer will toss and turn less by maintaining consistent body and skin temperature. Celsion lessens the need to add blankets for chill and minimizes perspiring to cool down a warm sleeper. At the same time, the product is 100% Talalay latex, which provides consumers unique benefits. Not only does Talalay latex provide a plush feel, it is the healthiest cushioning material in the industry with its natural anti-microbial and dust mite resistant properties.
