Jamison Bedding Celebrates 125th Anniversary, Serving

Over Four Hundred Retailers with a "Heritage of Quality"

By: Dale T. Read, Editor-in-Chief

Jamison Bedding, located in Franklin, Tennessee, a sixth generation owned family business, is proud to celebrate its 125th year of manufacturing quality sleep products for customers in the southeast and for extremely well known brand name companies in the hospitality industry.

Frank C. Gorrell, III, a member of the family and Jamison president, informs BEDROOM Magazine that the company embraces a marketing slogan, “a heritage of quality since 1883.” More than a slogan, Gorrell says, “Our quality is a promise to our customers and to the consumer. Centuries of family honor are sewn into every stitch, handcrafted into details that may escape the eye, but not the experience of sleeping on Jamison bedding. Many of our current craftsmen,” says Gorrell, “have been hand-cutting, shaping and devotedly creating Jamison Bedding for over three decades.”

Speaking of the Jamison team, Thad Pettyjohn, Vice President of Sales, tells BEDROOM Magazine a story that reflects on the long-term commitment and loyalty of Jamison employees. “Twenty-five years ago, five young men attended our hundredth anniversary as new salesmen with Jamison. These five will also attend our 125th anniversary, and they are still young at heart, full of enthusiastic support for both their customers and their company.”

Addressing the loyalty factor characteristic of a family owned business, Pettyjohn asks, “How many other companies, with a select group of salesmen, can say that, over the years, fifty percent of their salesmen are still with them over this period of time? We have been blessed with their good health and their safety on the highways, while driving over a million miles in this quarter century.”

Since 1883, Jamison has been manufacturing the finest quality of bedding available anywhere in the world, according to Gorrell. With over four hundred retailers and commercial alliances with Intercontinental Hotels, LaQuinta and Marriott, Jamison is today one of the largest bedding suppliers in the United States. Jamison’s philosophy is simple: the company makes handcrafted, unique products at highly competitive prices, offering excellent margins to retailers. The company maintains strong personal relationships with its four hundred-plus retailers, offering them the right mix of mattress/bedding products, and hands-on personal service. Because the company does not spend millions on national advertising, Jamison is able to offer quality products at a price range that permits retailers to enjoy strong margins.

Jamison’s product mix includes their steel-laced innerspring line. The company takes the world’s best coil—the tempered steel, fine wire LFK coil—which is an open-ended and double offset construction. This is the coil most often used in premium mattresses. However, says Gorrell, “We were not content offering what is considered the world’s best coil. We engineered this coil with our Smart Coil® Technology to give you the True Balance, the Equalizer, the Vita Pedic Innersprings.” Gorrell notes that Smart Coils are assembled with alternating right-turn and left-turn construction. As a result, when weight is applied, the two coils work in tandem, giving proper response and support to the sleeper. Smart Coil Technology neutralizes the transfer of motion, eliminates partner disturbance and creates a 100% true balanced sleep surface.

Jamison’s pocketed coil program, Crest Collection, provides 100% coil conformity, true motion separation, a responsive coil surface, a singular sense of support and disturbance-free sleep.

The company also offers their Talalay latex bed program. Talalay latex is viewed by many as the most consistent and superior performing latex on the market. It is inside every Jamison latex sleep system. The Jamison Choice of Comfort Talalay Latex System quilts an exclusive cover to a luxurious silk blend to further enhance the natural surface comfort of the latex to the body’s contours. The company layers two different densities of premium latex to create a choice of comfort and sleeping surfaces. The Exclusive Comfort Support System lets the consumer choose the comfort level.

Jamison also offers what they have called their Resort Foam beds. Every night can be a vacation night for customers, as they drift off to sleep remembering the cool breezes and the sound of the ocean waves breaking . . . remembering that in our active lives, we always need time to rest, relax, dream and rejuvenate. The desire to provide this vacation-like experience lead Jamison to create the Resort Collection, featuring Talalay latex, visco memory foam, Omalon, the company’s exclusive resort foam, developed for the finest resorts throughout the world.

Finally, Jamison offers a full range of contract bedding for the hospitality industry. Jamison’s impressive list of alliances includes a 40 year history with Marriott Corporation, Intercontinental Hotels Group, including Holiday Inn, La Quinta, Best Western, and Budget Host International, to name a few of the major hotel brands that Jamison has supplied.

Hoteliers around the country understand the importance of creating a unique sleeping environment for their valued guests. Jamison offers products to assist hoteliers in distinguishing their bedding programs from all others. Distinct and unique products with unsurpassed customer service are the cornerstones of Jamison’s philosophy within the hospitality industry states Ben Roney, Vice President of Contract Sales.

Thad Pettyjohn returns to the subject of the heritage of quality and the long-term personal relationships that Jamison offers their retailers. “We are proud of our mattress lines and the quality of the components and workmanship we have put into our Jamison beds. We realize that anyone can make a mattress and box spring and a good percentage of our competitors make a decent set of bedding. Our goal, however, is to help the individual retail dealer realize his dreams, while marketing, selling and even sleeping on Jamison Bedding. We have been doing this since 1883 and, as we celebrate our 125th Anniversary, we hope to be doing it for another hundred years.”
