Sealy Expands Both Specialty Sleep and S & F Luxury Bedding

with New Manufacturing Plant in Pennsylvania

Sealy, (NYSE: ZZ) the world’s largest bedding manufacturer is putting both its money and its mouth behind the growth of the specialty bedding market, which by the way is the industry’s fastest growing segment. There can be no question that this category is taking off when the number one manufacturer of bedding and mattresses jumps both feet into the mix.

A company spokesperson recently listed what he called ‘Sealy’s New Specialty Initiatives’:

In July the company announced that they are building a new latex manufacturing facility in Mountaintop, Pennsylvania, located near Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The new facility will be built as the Sealy, Sapsa Division, and will be used to manufacture latex foam for use across the Sealy and Stearns & Foster product lines. Sealy executives expect that operations will most likely commence during the first quarter of 2007.

The new 210,000 square foot facility will manufacture latex, the specialty material increasingly used in high-end bedding products. In addition, Sealy will manufacture its proprietary foam-encased innersprings for Stearns & Foster luxury branded beds.

Sealy introduced their new SpringFree II by Sealy Posturepedic (see related story) latex collection, offering consumers the benefits of latex with an expanded range of comfort options. Featuring the same 100 percent latex core of the original SpringFree, the new line offers consumers more comfort materials options and enhanced fashion and aesthetics.

The company also recently introduced their high-end visco-elastic memory foam TrueForm Pillowtop collection. The pillowtop provides a soft, luxurious feel, and it is made of multi-layered memory foam with a cashmere blend cover. These beds are selling for a suggested retail price of $2999.

Finally the company introduced their new Stearns & Foster Tropical Oasis luxury collection featuring a 100% latex core topped with signature Stearns & Foster appointments such as luxurious fabrics and hand-painted corner guards.

Sealy CEO David McIlquaham re-inforced Sealy’s commitment to the specialty sleep field by clearly spelling out the company’s focus on growth and opportunity: “The specialty bedding segment represents an enormous opportunity to expand our business while offering consumers a variety of sleep solutions that will help them get a great night’s sleep. The specialty bedding market is an important part of our overall growth strategy,” said McIlquam. “The decision to break ground and build the Mountaintop, PA plant represents one of Sealy’s most significant initiatives in 2006.”
